make it

A continuación vamos a ver un uso del verbo make que no se suele ver en los libros de gramática. Dicho uso es cuando va seguido de it. Cuando tenemos make it significa "poder llegar", "poder hacer acto de presencia", "aparecer en el sitio concertado" o "poder ir" (como puedes ver, en cualquiera de las acepciones antes indicadas, hay una idea, después de todo, de "poder quedar").

     We're not going to make it.

     I won't be able to make it to the party.

     We made it!

     Don't worry, they'll make it here in time.

     They made it just in time to catch the ending.

     Can you make it?

     We'll make it there by dinner time.

(don't) let = (don't) give permission

(don't) make/let + object + infinitive without to

Ejemplos: Teachers don't let students bring chewing gum to school.

              When we find toys at school we make the kids throw them out.
