WHEN en el futuro

Cuando hablamos del futuro utilizando when hay que usar el presente simple inmediatamente después y no el futuro ya que will se utiliza en la otra cláusula.

     When I retire, I will go fishing everyday.

      When they start, will you let me know?

Este tipo de estructura se puede invertir, pero no debes olvidar que después de when hay que usar siempre el presente simple.

     I'll tell you when I need you.

     He'll miaow when he's hungry.

The future seen from the past

You can use the following phrases to talk about an event or action that was expected to happen in the past, but didn't.

                           going to

          was/were + supposed to + verb

                           due to

           on the verge of +ing

We were going to go to the cinema last night, but in the end we couldn't be bothered.

They were supposed to be going away on holiday this week, but James got the flu.

The phrase on the verge of is used to suggest that the action or event was inminent.

They were on the verge of cracking the code, but the other team got there first.

You can used to be to + infinitive to explain that a formal arrangement had been made.

The Prince was to visit the town in mid-May.

You can often use the modal auxiliary verb would to talk about the future in the past, especially in conjunction with phrases such as we had imagined, they had expected, he had thought.

We had expected that they would bring some warm clothes, considering the climate.

Future perfect

Se divide en dos: Simple y Continuous.

Future Perfect Simple

Forma: will have + past participle

Uso: Se utiliza para acciones que habrán acabado en un momento dado en el futuro. Ejemplo: We will have finished our course by the end of June.

Future Perfect Continuous

Forma: will have been + -ing

Uso: Se utiliza para enfatizar la duración de una acción hasta un determinado momento en el futuro, este tiempo verbal es usado con by...for. Ejemplo: By the end of May Luke will have been living in Manchester for 5 years.

Future continuous

Forma: will be + present participle of the verb

Usos: el future continuous se utiliza para los siguientes casos:

1. Acciones que estarán en progreso en un determiando momento del futuro. Por ejemplo: I've got a new job, this time next month I'll be working in the bank.
2. Acciones que pasarán como resultado de una rutina o cita. Ejemplo: I will be visiting my grandparents at the weekend.
3. Cuando preguntamos educadamente acerca de los planes de alguien en un futuro próximo. Ejemplo: Will you be finishing with that book soon?

Future simple

Forma: will + bare infinitive

Usos: el future simple se utiliza para los siguientes casos:

1. Decisiones hechas en el momento de hablar. Por ejemplo: It's hot in here, I'll open a window.
2. Predicciones sobre el futuro, basadas en lo que creemos pensamos o imaginamos. Se utilizan los verbos think, believe, expect, etc, las expresiones be sure, be afraid, etc y los adverbios probably, certainly, perhaps, etc. Ejemplo: He will probably call you later.
3. Promises, threats, warnings, requests, hopes and offers. Ejemplo: Will you help me clean up this mess?
4. Acciones, eventos o situaciones que sucederán en el futuro y que no podemos controlar. Ejemplo: Sue will be three years in June.
